I've been listening to Frank Turner's music ever since I first heard Long Live The Queen on Radio 1. Because I loved that song so much I bought Love Ire & Song which has some truly wonderful songs on it. Frank's latest album is Poetry of the Deed which was less instant than the previous album, but still great.
Short Review : I loved it.
Long Review: It starts off as a silent movie on the hardships of making your wealth in the Wild West, and then slowly turns into a life story of obsession. All of the acting is top-class excellent. The characters are nicely grey, there were times when I hated the mian character and times when I felt sorry for him. The landscapes are awesome, see it on a big screen, and the soundtrack, by Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead, is fabulous. The Soundtrack adds a whole new layer of tension to the film. After more than 2.5 hours I was ready for more, and yet the ending made perfect sense. Good stuff.
Went to see The Nines of Tuesday night. I enjoyed it a lot. Here's my review on Big Dumb Object. Robin also has a review.
The film is out on November 30th, I got offered preview tickets and we saw it at The Soho Screening Rooms: small, free salmon sandwhiches, free beer and wine. The guy on the desk asked if we (Matt, Robin and I) were from the same publication. Which means my blog is a publication now. Which is nice.

I watched Flight Of The Conchords last night on BBC4. I didn't know too much about it, just that the trailers were funny. I was pleasantly surprised. I laughed a lot.
"Wannabe musicians Bret and Jemaine have left their native New Zealand to try to make it big in their adopted home of New York City"
After a few minutes into the show I was enjoying the dry humour of the kiwis and then it burst into song. Funny songs, with clever lyrics. Which took it to a new level, beyond a mere musically flavoured Office clone. Very cool. How often do you hear a song about a robot uprising killing all the humans on the BBC?
The official site is here.
The BBC site has clips, that give you a flavour, but don't really convey the whole feel because they don't include any songs.
We went to see Atonement on Wednesday.
It was okay. Well made, but lacking somewhat in plot. TheDunkirk scenes were amazing. The start wouldn't have been tense at all if it were not for the music.
James McAvoy was good, Ikea Knightley was less good.
I liked it. Intense, non-stop action, crazy brilliant fighting and stunts. Relentless.
I read all the Bourne books years ago and liked them a lot (The Bourne Identity is particularily great), and the film, although completely different from the book, seemed to me to capture the essence.
I watched Some Kind Of Monster for the first time Wednesday night, it was on More4 (review).
I wasn't going to bother because Metallica really annoyed me over that whole Napster thing, but I'm glad I did. It was very interesting. Some thoughts...
I can't stand Lars Ulrich. He's insecure, arrogant, power mad, backstabbing... Yuck. The whole deal with him trying to sue Napster, even though he was a millionaire, somes it all up. And when he went to see Jason Newsted's band, he was so insecure about it, really pathetic.
Bob Rock came across as Lars's buddy, without too much opinion of his own. Didn't like him.
The others however were really nice. Kirk Hammet the surfer dude seemed very mellow. I loved James Hetfield post rehab, he was so cool. I thought it was awesome how he stopped working at 4pm to pick his daughter up from ballet, that was so cute. And Lars just couldn't handle it.
Worth seeing.
What was the first movie you remember seeing in a movie theater?
Question submitted by mainmor.
It was AMAZING.
Another night, another film on Film 4 that I hadn't seen before. Last night it was The Hole. I was expecting a cheesey, teen horror flick. However the first half was a complete surprise. It has multiple, unreliable narratives acting as a nice hook to pull you through the film. Only in the second half when the truth comes out does the film revert to (expected) type (and turns a bit nasty).
Pleasantly different to expectations.
