Brett's Angry Dance

Brett's Angry Dance

Flight of the Conchords, episode 12, the genius of Brett's Angry Dance.

I'm really sad that Flight Of The Conchords has finished on BBC4 now. What will I do? The last few episode turned from straight ahead funny to more black humour, bitter sweet, Ricky Gervais flavoured. However the last episode made me laugh an awful lot, particularily The Dance. And then whilst the credits were running Brett and Jermaine doing the angry dance.

Genius.

Mices

  • Dec 10, 2007

Nibbling noises in the loft signalled mice (that and the freezing cold rain). Or mices if you're a cartoon character. After deciding against traditional traps and superglue trays(!) we bought some humane traps, which are plastic tubes that close the mouse in. We've tried these before and the mice ate through them. But this time, success, we caught two and I let them free on the cricket pitch (a good distance from the house). It was quite nice to see them bounding away alive. Although the dog then tried its best to track them down.

Unfortunately we were too late to stop them eating a big chunk of our Christmas lights. I wouldnt have thought they'd like green rubber so much.

My First Rewrite Request

Two interesting "not acceptances" for my stories in the last few days.

Firstly I've had my first ever rewrite request. The magazine said they liked it but the ending was too much of a downer. And, well they're right. They'd like me to rewrite a new ending, a happy ending, sort of. I'm thinking about it. The problem is envisaging the story as something other than the one I wrote. I might give it a go though.

Secondly I've had a rejection from the Mundane issue of Interzone. That's interesting because I received an email from the guest editor Geoff Ryman, with a selection of very detailed comments, starting with...

"There was a lot to enjoy in this story, especially because there is still fun to be had in this future.  However it didn't make the final cut."

Very useful comments, most of which I agree with. And Geoff Ryman is an award winning author, who's book Air I really loved. So, maybe I need another rewrite.

Hmmm.
