Another "positive" rejection

This was a good SF story that I quite enjoyed. However, I've received a record number of submissions, and competition is fiercer than ever. So while "Reboot" is a very good story, it still did not stand out enough for me to lift it from the slushpile.

James, please don't let me be the one to put you down, but is this a "positive" rejection? I think that the use of the words "slushpile" and "did not stand out" are pretty harsh after saying that it was good............

Sounds a bit of a div to me this guy............

Slushpile is the common phrase for all the stories that get sent in. It's not derogatory, it's just the name. Saying it didn't stand out is not necessarily as bad as it sounds too, they might have 800 submissions this month, many from famous writers. It's positive because he said it was a good story that he enjoyed.

A bad rejection is one that gives you no feedback. (Or blatantly says your story is rubbish, but no one profesional does that).
